All Summer Long

The first post of the summer needs to be accompanied by this song... because it screams SUMMER!  And we may not have been trying different things or smoking funny things this weekend but it was awesome none-the-less.

It is time to start checking things off that summer to-do list.

Main Street Days.
Check.

Getting our fire hats at the Beat the Chief contest.
Check.

Those fire fighters are amazing.  They are such a team.  Encouraging and supporting each other as they make their way through the obstacle course.  When each participate crossed the finish line their fellow members were there offering the kindest of words as they helped them undress.  A small glimpse into the camaraderie of a volunteer fire department.  The girls watched again this year...not at all interested in participating in the kids event.  Maybe next year.

Riding the Fair rides.
Check.

It doesn't matter that we were at the happiest place on earth earlier this year.  My girls thought these rides rocked!  And never was I so thankful that my girls are lookers rather than leaper's than at the Fair.   Because they were not even remotely interested in trying the screamin' swings or the salt-n-pepper shaker.  Not even the Ferris wheel for that matter.  And this time, no encouragement was given from mom or dad for trying different things.

And what makes our small town fair superior to Disney is meeting up with all our friends without even having to make a phone call.

Canada Day Parade.
Check.

I am in love with this little tradition.  Same time.  Same place.  Just a year older.  The sun did it's job turning on the heat.  The parade floats were superb.  The pulled pork was exactly like you would find on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.  The kids ran and splashed.  It's one of those days when you sit back and think,  "life doesn't get any better than this" as you take a sip from your cold drink that is sweating in your hand.

Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long.
Check.

Great fun..... I love that we have a small town fair to kick off our summer! We go, go, go all weekend and then at last we take a breath and realize yes we are on holidays... what will we do today?

We also have a summer to do list that we have been slowly checking off. I always rush to pack it all in because every day just seems irreplaceable and they go by way too fast!
